Job Description
Performs manual labor in building catch basins, pouring for curbs and raised medians, laying pipes for driveways and other drainage structures, repairing shoulders, clearing of right-of-ways, and repairing bridges. Trains to operate a 5-yard standard dump truck and flatbed truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials, and debris. Repairs potholes and base surface failures of roadway using hand tools such as shovel, pick, rake, and asphalt lute to level asphalt as needed. Assists in maintaining proper traffic controls while maintenance operation is in progress. Works as required or as necessary during hazardous weather or other emergencies to ensure safety of the motoring public. Performs other related duties as assigned by the SCDOT supervisor.

Performs manual labor as a member of a ditching crew cleaning out ditches, pulling shoulders, and cleaning clogged drainage pipes to ensure the proper drainage of water on roads in the Pelion area of Lexington County. Training to operate 5-yard and tandem dump trucks to haul materials and equipment to and from job sites. Assists in setting up traffic control devices, cones, signs, etc., in accordance with SCMUTCD Standards. Uses chain saw, axe, sling blade, etc. to remove trees and unwanted vegetation on rights-of-way to improve sight distance.
