Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program at Florence-Darlington Technical College provides funds that are earned through part-time employment to assist students in financing the costs of education. It is available to full-time or part-time students and schedules may vary, but students work 10-20 hours per week on-campus or off-campus.

Work-Study Requirements

  • You must have a financial need (read more below)
  • You must be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Maintain complete 70% of coursework
  • Must meet Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy

Financial Need

All students have a Cost of Attendance Budget (which varies based on residency and dependency), a student’s financial aid cannot exceed the Cost of Attendance budget.  Students who hold a work-study position must have enough remaining financial need (Cost of Attendance Budget minus financial aid) to cover what they would be paid as a work-study.

COA Budget        $13,000
Financial Aid       -$8,000
Financial Need  $5,000

This student’s work-study earnings cannot exceed $5,000.

How are Work-Study students paid?

  • Work-Study students are required to enter their hours on Self-Service each week
  • The current rate of pay is $10/hr
  • Paid bi-weekly
