Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) will host a Pre-Nursing Youth Apprenticeship information session

Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) will host a Pre-Nursing Youth Apprenticeship information session for high school students interested in becoming youth apprentices on Saturday, February 10^th.

This informational session will be geared towards high school students who are rising juniors and seniors for 2023-2024, and who want to get a head start in the healthcare field by earning a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential and becoming a youth apprentice at an area hospital.

“We’re very excited about this opportunity for our students,” FDTC Associate Vice President of Corporate and Workforce Development Dr. Lauren Holland said. “I’m also especially pleased with the support of area employers, as well.  For this current academic year, we only had two pre-nursing youth apprenticeship opportunities for students at one hospital, but employers have stepped up, and for the next academic year, we have three participating hospitals who have committed to hiring a total of about 30 Pre-Nursing youth apprentices next year.  It’s a great opportunity for high school students to get a jump start on a nursing degree, and to graduate from high school on an accelerated path into the workforce with a career that is high in demand.”

FDTC has partnered with Mcleod Health, MUSC Health, and Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center to offer these youth apprenticeship opportunities. Any students who are enrolled in the program can begin their Junior or Senior year of high school in the college’s Pre-Nursing career pathway as a dual-enrolled student. By participating in the program, students will be able to get valuable healthcare career training, a national credential, and earn a paycheck as a youth apprentice, all while attending high school.

During the informational session, attendees will receive an overview of the Pre-Nursing youth apprenticeship program, and they will get to hear from participating employers about opportunities within their organizations. Additionally, interested parties will get to hear from an existing youth apprentice about their experiences with the program. FDTC admissions staff will be available to answer any questions and process applications for students who wish to apply to the college.

The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the SiMT, located on FDTC’s main campus (1951 Pisgah Road in Florence, SC), in room 235.
