
EKG Techhnician
Program overview
The EKG program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to accurately record the electrical signals in the heart by performing an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG). The course covers the anatomy and physiology of the heart, electrical conduction system, and the principles behind EKG monitoring. Students will learn how to identify normal and abnormal heart rhythms, recognize life threatening arrhythmias, cardiac ischemia, signs and symptoms of cardiac compromise, and understand appropriate response to abnormal and life-threatening EKG changes. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the EKG Technician Certification exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association.
