FDTC Receives Funding to Promote Healthy Relationships and Campus Safety

The South Carolina Institute on the Prevention of Sexual Violence on College Campuses (SCIP) has awarded Florence-Darlington Tech $4,000 to support programming efforts for the 2026-2027 academic year. The funds will be used to develop programming for FDTC students aimed at reducing interpersonal violence.

“A safe campus starts with respect,” Dean of Student Engagement & Success Genell Gause said. “Healthy relationships, informed choices, and the courage to speak up help create a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and safe.”

The purpose of the support programming is to increase student awareness of sexual violence prevention, healthy relationships, consent, bystander intervention, stalking, dating/domestic violence, harassment, and available campus/community resources through a series of engaging educational activities throughout the academic year.

FDTC Student Services will develop 3 -4 workshops for students, educational materials, and a campus and community resource fair.

Gause said, “Preparing our students for the future sometimes goes beyond the classroom. We want to provide our students with opportunities to prepare themselves to be the best possible people as well.”

Chartered at Lander University and housed at Lander’s campus at the University Center of Greenville, the Institute’s primary purpose is to reduce the prevalence of interpersonal violence on college campuses in South Carolina through a collaborative, unified approach.

The Institute’s membership comprises representatives from each of the state’s public and private higher education institutions. With regular meetings and workshops throughout the year, the Institute is focused on capturing best practices in prevention and intervention, as well as survivor care and support services.
