FDTC secures grant funds to upskill electric utility linemen
Florence-Darlington Tech (FDTC) has secured grant funds through the SC NEXUS Resilient Careers Grant to help upskill linemen in the electric utility industry. The grant provides up to $5,000 to help cover the costs of tuition for eligible linemen in the electric utility industry to earn their Commercial Driver’s License.
“Florence-Darlington Technical College is committed to partnering with industry to build a highly skilled workforce that meets the evolving needs of our region,” Vice President of Corporate & Workforce Development Dr. Rhonda Johns said. “This grant opportunity removes a financial barrier for electric utility linemen seeking to earn their Commercial Driver’s License, an essential credential that enhances career advancement and strengthens the workforce pipeline for our utility partners.”
Johns added that through programs like SC NEXUS, FDTC continues to provide accessible, industry-aligned training that helps individuals advance their careers while supporting the economic growth and resiliency of the Pee Dee region.
To be considered for the grant program, applicants must be:
- Currently enrolled in or have completed a line worker training program
- Currently employed by or sponsored through an electrical utility company
Applicants must provide proof of employment and completion of an eligible line worker program.
FDTC’s CDL class for this program will meet on Saturdays and Sundays for 8 weeks. Funding is limited, so applicants are encouraged to apply immediately.
