Power Up Nuclear Scholarship Program

As a Valve Technician, your job responsibilities may include troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining various valve types for optimum efficiency, using precision measuring instruments proficiently, and maintaining the system free of foreign materials and debris. Course topics include valve types and functions, minimizing costs in valve repairs, leak-proof sealing techniques, blueprints and drawings, proper fastener choice and torqueing, machining valve components, reducing systems debris, and proper procedures for packing stuffing boxes.

This course prepares students for work in the steel industry. Students will learn structural welding, steel erection, field fabrication, and practice 3G/4G weld tests. Additionally, this program is one of three CWD programs that can prepare and train students for work in the nuclear power industry. Structural Welding program is 16 weeks (192 hours) and costs $2,650.

To qualify you must pass a 3/8" plate vertical weld test. Students will learn how to TIG weld carbon steel pipe and Stick weld carbon pipe in 2G, 5G, and 6G positions. This course prepares students to work in the industry as an entry level pipe welder. Successful graduates can expect to find employment with mechanical and industrial contractors.
