TRiO Student Support Services

TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program administered at Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC). The SSS Program provides educational opportunity and outreach services to eligible FDTC students. The program focuses on three main college goals: retention, graduation, and college transfer for interested students.

The SSS staff are devoted to enriching student life academically, culturally, and professionally to ensure a supportive environment for students adjusting to college life. The program provides an array of activities and services to help students achieve their academic goals.

Students who take advantage of these services have a better chance of being successful in college life and completing their college education. Services are free to all SSS participants.

SUPPORT SERVICES INCLUDE:

  • Academic support is provided through counseling, coaching, tutoring, and various workshops.
  • Students are assigned counselors they can talk to as needed for a variety of issues.
  • Participants are exposed to different cultural events and activities throughout the program year to enrich
    their college experience.
  • Both financial aid counseling and financial literacy workshops are provided to help students make informed decisions.
  • Transfer assistance is provided to those students interested in continuing their higher education journey at another institution.

WHO QUALIFIES?

If any of these describe you then you could be eligible for TRiO Student Support Services. The next step will be to fill out the application.

First Time Degree Seeker

If you are working towards your first associate degree (or your first bachelor’s degree), we are here to provide the support you need. Please note that students who have already earned an associate or bachelor’s degree are not eligible for our program.

First-Generation Student

If neither parent (or guardian) earned a bachelor’s degree, you qualify as a first-generation student. We understand the unique experiences and obstacles first-generation students face, and our program is tailored to meet your specific needs.

Meet Income Eligibility Requirements

The federal government’s guidelines for low-income status determine this eligibility criterion. If you or your family meet the income requirements, we provide the resources and assistance necessary to help you succeed.

Have a Documented Disability

Students must self-identify as having a disability upon application. The disability must be documented with the college’s ADA Student Disability Services Office.

How to Apply

  • Interested students should apply by completing the Student Application.
  • Once you have submitted your application, our staff will verify program eligibility.
  • If you are accepted, you will receive a letter via mail and assigned a counselor.
  • Once you receive your letter, stop by our office to complete the application process.
