Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

On September 5, 2017, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security began a phase out of the DACA program. For more details about this decision, see the full announcement.

Step 1. Apply to FDTC

The easiest step of the whole process is to simply APPLY!

Complete your online application here!

Please Note: FDTC is currently discouraging DACA recipients from choosing majors in the Health Science, Nursing and Public Service divisions because workplace testing requirements and background checks will make securing employment in these fields difficult, if not impossible, for an individual who is not a U.S. citizen. Based on current South Carolina law (June 2014), DACA students are unable to obtain certifications and state licenses that are required for these majors.

Step 2: We need a few things from you

Submit the following official documentation to the Admissions Office

  • Employment Authorization Card
  • “Valid for Work Only” Social Security Card

We need you to send us your official high school/college transcript or GED and any test scores that you might have. Some applicants may be eligible for an Admission Waiver or Provisional Acceptance.

Official High School Transcript or GED

Send an Official High School Transcript/GED electronically to admissions@fdtc.edu or by mail to:

Florence-Darlington Technical College
PO Box 100548
Florence, SC 29502-0548

Sealed Transcripts/GED may also be submitted directly to the Admissions Office in the 5000 Building, Room 5316.

Are you a high school senior who has not yet graduated? Don’t wait! Have your counselor send your current transcript to admissions@fdtc.edu.

Test Scores

Test scores are not required for admission to FDTC but are used for placement in classes. Read more about Placement Tests.

If you have SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer scores within the past 5 years, please submit your Official Score Report electronically to admissions@fdtc.edu or by mail to:

Florence-Darlington Technical College
PO Box 100548
Florence, SC 29502-0548

Official Score Reports may also be submitted directly to the Admissions Office in the 5000 Building, Room 5316

Note: Although FDTC prefers your official transcript for more accurate course placement, the college will accept your original High School/GED diploma as verification in lieu of the official transcript for Admission purposes. Diplomas must be delivered in person to the Admissions Office. Note that an official transcript may still be required to receive certain forms of financial aid.

If you completed college/university coursework outside of the United States, your transcripts must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) https://www.wes.org/

Step 3: Access your new accounts

It's now time to access your student email, myFDTC Self-Service, and your Desire2Learn(D2L) accounts.

We will be sending you all the directions you need to access these accounts so don't worry. You should receive this information the following business day after submitting your application.

If you have any trouble accessing these accounts once you have received your sign in information, reach out to our IT Help Desk at 843.661.8123 and they will make sure you can get in.

Step 4: Register for courses

Once you've been accepted, it's time to schedule an appointment with our Advising Center to register for courses. They will help you to make sure your in the right classes for your degree path.

REMINDERS!

  • Pay your tuition and fees by the assigned deadline to avoid being dropped from classes. Note that as a DACA recipient, you are not eligible for state or federal financial aid, including Pell grants, lottery, loans, etc. DACA recipients must also pay the out-of-state tuition rate.
  • The DACA program is new, and how the state of South Carolina interprets this program is subject to change. Furthermore, immigration reform is constantly under discussion, so DACA students should stay up-to-date about their rights and obligations as this area of law continues to evolve.
