FDTC Receives Silver Award for Supporting Military-Affiliated Students

Published:

Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) has been honored with the Silver Level Award from the South Carolina Military Academic Recognition Program (SCMARP), a statewide initiative led by the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA). This recognition highlights FDTC’s continued commitment to supporting Service members, Veterans, Reservists, National Guard members, and their families in achieving their academic and career goals.

Representatives from the SCDVA recently visited the FDTC campus to formally present the award. Institutions are selected based on their demonstration of best practices in serving military-affiliated students. Key criteria considered include:

  • A centralized Veterans Center where military-affiliated students can access support services and community;
  • College credit awarded for prior military training and education based on American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines;
  • Career and professional placement services for student veterans after graduation;
  • Accessible information for Veterans and military-affiliated students on the college’s website.

FDTC’s Veterans Center, located on the main campus, serves as a central hub for veterans seeking support and guidance. Staff members at the center work closely with faculty to assess military training for potential credit toward Technical and Workforce programs.

The presence of the on-campus Veterans Center, along with the college’s proactive approach to recognizing prior military experience, played a significant role in earning this distinction.
