
FDTC Reopens Upgraded SiMT Conference Center with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) proudly held a grand reopening and ribbon cutting ceremony for its SiMT Conference Center on Tuesday, celebrating the renovation that brings expanded capabilities and renewed energy to one of the region’s premier event spaces.
Closed for much of the past year, the 12,000 square-foot Conference Center underwent extensive upgrades to improve its versatility and enhance the experience for clients hosting a wide range of events—from large-scale conferences and banquets to board meetings, trade shows, and trainings.
“The SiMT team is thrilled that reconstruction of our conference center is complete,” Tressa Gardner, Associate Vice President of the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) and the Gould Business Incubator said. “We are excited to showcase the upgrades and improvements to the entire community.”
Upgrades to the space include:
- Installation of six 163-inch digital displays with cutting-edge video and sound systems
- New LED lighting systems with expanded versatility for event customization
- A new and improved wall partition system allowing flexible room layouts
- Fresh paint, new ceiling and wall coverings for a modern, professional atmosphere
FDTC President Dr. Jermaine Ford praised the renovations as an investment not only in the college’s infrastructure but in the surrounding region.
“The newly upgraded Conference Center demonstrates our commitment to supporting local businesses, organizations, and individuals with the facilities they need to succeed,” Ford said. “Whether you’re planning a corporate training, a community meeting, or a large-scale celebration, FDTC and SiMT are proud to offer this venue to help bring your vision to life.”
The reimagined Conference Center can host up to 1,200 guests in a lecture setting, 800 for banquets, or be subdivided into four breakout rooms—ideal for smaller events or concurrent sessions. The space includes high-definition projection, integrated audio systems, and flexible setup options.
Event Services at SiMT also offers:
- The Marlboro Pee Dee Electric Cooperative Auditorium – A multimedia theater seating 800, equipped with surround sound, multiple screens, and audiovisual support.
- Seven classrooms – Each room accommodates 40–54 guests
- A spacious lobby – Perfect for trade shows, cocktail hours, or displays requiring heavy equipment and vehicle access.
- Executive boardroom and adjoining Dining Room – Accommodates 20 guests and includes a private lounge and catering space.
